Coliseum Team Conducts Case Study on Bilateral Shin Splints

The Coliseum Sports Medicine and Orthopedics at Casa Colina recently conducted a case study exploring therapeutic interventions for bilateral shin splints. Under the direction of Coliseum Program Medical Director Steven Bast, MD, our physical therapists worked with a male basketball player experiencing debilitating shin splints, providing an initial gait assessment to better understand how force of his running pattern was contributing to the injury. Following a series of treatments that included glute activation, strengthening, and running retraining to improve shock absorption, the athlete experienced a notable decrease in pain levels and was able to return to play without restrictions. The study concluded these treatments to be an effective remedy for bilateral shin splint pain.
